Conservation Farmers Named

This year’s Kent Soil and Crop Improvement Association Conservation Farmers are Rob and Linda Smyth.

The Smyths farm in Harwich and Raleigh.

Rob Smyth says it’s quite the honour, but he doesn’t think he does anything different than most farmers, adding conservation practices need not hinder the bottom line.

“In our case, I’m going to say it’s a wash, we probably do come ahead from just from a soil erosion point of view.”

The Smyths’ two sons are involved in the operation as well, farming tomatoes, seed corn, seed soybeans, and winter wheat.

Story by Trevor Thompson, Blackburn News.
