The chair of the Ontario Sugar Beet Growers Association says he’s expecting a smaller harvest this fall, compared to the last two years.
Glenn Jack says the Dover piling ground averaged about 31 tonnes per acre last year, and he expects that to be down when the harvest begins in mid-September because of the late planting season.
“I’m thinking maybe between 28 and 30 tonne to the acre,” says Jack. “It’ll be a good crop, but not what it was.”
Jack says there’s still no movement in an American court battle over the use of Roundup Ready seeds, which is the industry preference across North America.
