The people who were causing the problem with the absenteeism were not the ones who got laid off. The ones lowest in seniority and had been out of work previous to being hired there are who got laid off. These employees want to work. The only option to do this was to sign off their seniority rights and sign the piece of paper sent to them in the mail with their lay off notice. This paper told them they could come back at a lower wage and fill in for the ones unable to come in to work. They are members of the union there and should not have to give up their recall rights just to get to work.
