Canada Day! Happy Anniversary!

It was July 1, 1867 that this great Country of ours was born! It wasn’t until actually until 1879 that the holiday was officially established and was Celebrated as Dominion Day, because we were part of the “Dominion” of Britain. While it feels like forever ago it was a private member’s bill that proposed to change the name to Canada Day was passed in the House of Commons in five minutes, and without debate. Shortly after that the name was officially changed to Canada Day on October 27, 1982!

It was only 4 short years later, on July 1st 1986 that a NEW Radio Station in Chatham-Kent was born. CKSY-FM went on the air that Canada Day morning at 6am….New Kid in Town by the Eagles was the first song played on then COSY 95 “The Fresh New Sound of Canada’s Southland”, where I debuted with the rest of the new staff in Afternoons presenting News, information and easy listening music.

Much like this great County of ours, CKSY has developed and grown over the years…today CKSY-FM is at 94.3 Fm (a frequency flip from 95.1 Fm in 2002) playing a popular mix of Adult Contemporary music and continuing the news and community information Chatham-Kent is looking for. This July 1st, 2010 94.3 CKSY has made another move forward. A NEW fresh look logo, updated positioning statement and a NEW interactive website. A new site that will enable us to provide you the latest information, updates that we provide on-air, but now on demand! Also check our website out for special weather and traffic alerts when they occur on our home page.

Whether it’s on our FACEBOOK site, on Twitter, on Line, On the air or on location at your favourite Chatham-Kent retailer we are accessable and connected to you where you live and breath…Gotta Love technology :)

Happy Canada Day! Greetings from across the Romania! My husband just left to join the Canadian embassy staff for supper ( wives are not invited!) We remember Canada’s Day with mixed feelings of what she was, is and can be. I send greetings to all the folks who will be out to see the fireworks and hope you remember what it means to be free. Free to say what you really feel and think. Not just the Politiclly correct!

Have fun, there is plenty of work to do tomorrow!
